If you're an amateur photographer looking for a camera to start shooting, this is your best choice.
Nikon has made this model the easiest to use. I don't use the guide mode much but if you don't know anything about SLRs you can learn a lot from this camera.
Pros:
.Rugged feeling
.Lots of shooting tips
.Retouch and review modes very useful
.Very nice photo quality overall
Cons:
.No auto-bracketing
.Custom white balance's not too easy to set up.
.No live view
Overall this is a great product. It lacks some features that as a professional might make your job easier but except for the auto bracketing that I missed, you can live with the other stuff with no problem. |
Great Camera so happy I chose this one

| I have been checking around to find an SLR that I could upgrade to from the ordinary cameras they have out there. I have been using the Sony cybershot which I do love and it is great for basic photography but I wanted one that I could do more with and with this camera you can do so much. I would not have thought to pick up all of the items that come with this package and the carry case is much better than I would have expected it to be with this price. I have only used this a few times but the pictures are beautiful, crisp and clear. I would definately recommend this camera. |
The D3000 is perfect for my needs!

I had done quite a bit of research as I was moving up to a DSLR from my film slr and digital point and shoots. I've been a devoted Olympus fan for years, and I did look at their dslr's, as well as Nikon, Canon and Pentax. I had waited a long time to make this purchase and I wanted to make the best choice for me. I talked to several people I know who are camera enthusiasts and a couple of pros. I researched several sites online and also went into stores so that I could really get the feel of the camera I was buying. I think that was a critical point for me. The Nikon just felt the best in my hands. This camera has a great feel, everything in easy reach and where you would expect it to be. Light-weight and fits my smaller hands.
I've loved shooting with it. One of the beautiful things about digital photography is that you can shoot away and experiment and see your results immediately. And you don't have to worry about paying for film processing. So the learning curve is much faster and I think you can experiment more and be more creative as you learn. I do not miss live view - as I don't like using it anyway. I'd much rather frame my shots through a viewfinder. I also don't miss the video feature, as I wouldn't use that either. I have a video camera for that. The 10mp is sufficient for my needs. While I do often crop photos to get just the right print, I rarely print to larger sizes. While it is billed as an entry level dslr, it has all of the features I need and the ability to expand through the broad range of Nikon lenses. I love doing candid portraits and travel/nature photography, and have been very pleased with my results so far. I know the guide mode is there, but I haven't really used it much. It might be a nice feature for some. AS I said, you can really just experiment and see your results as you go. Its a better way to learn for me. I've played with most of the programmed modes, which are nice to have when I am trying to catch a quick shot. I've liked the control you have to chose your own settings when i want.
Once I decided on the camera - I went in search of the best price. I've been very pleased with the package and price that I got through Amazon. I knew I wanted the kit lens and also the 55 - 200 lens. You need the SD card as well, and the extra battery and case are nice bonuses. So all in all, I think the package was a great value. I'll eventually add a good wide angle and several fitlers to my options, and I should be set to go. All in all, I have been very pleased with this purchase and would recommend the Nikon D3000 to others. |

| I was a little skeptical buying such an expensive item thru amazon.com from a company I had never heard of, but I am very happy with my purchase. The products work great, I love my camera and all the other items that came with it. I think I got a pretty good deal! :) |
